Tragic : Pastor Dies Hours Before Burial Service He Was Supposed to Officiate

Venerable Stephen Eseteru Ogue, JP, 53, of St. John’s Anglican Church, Agbarho in Ughelli, Delta State and author of several Christian books died at about 7.45 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015, two hours  before he was supposed to officiate at a funeral service.

He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at Lily Hospital, Deco Road, Warri. His first  daughter, Oghenenyoreme Ogue, said he had been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.

The hearse conveying the remains of the  woman whose burial the paster was supposed to preside at, mourners, including a large delegation of the church’s Women Guild as well as members of the Anglican Fasting and Prayer Society, had gathered in front of the church building as early as 9.25 a.m. for the service billed for 10.00 a.m.

Unaware of the tragedy that had occurred, the mourners waited patiently for the officiating ministers to receive the body but no pastor was in sight. Meanwhile, other  members of the church and visitors kept  trooping into the church premises for the funeral service.

Worried by the development, members of the mourning family  began to  call the vicar’s phone but someone kept answering his  asking them to exercise patient. The calls to Reverend Friday Erutere, billed to assist the venerable at the funeral service, were initially ignored until he answered  to similarly sue for patience, saying he was on his way to the church.

After about 45 minutes after the burial ceremony was supposed to start, a Toyota car, said to be owned by the vicar/archdeacon, hurried into the church premises and made its way straight to the staff quarters ,to the  relief of those waiting  outside the church. Immediately, people started regrouping around the hearse with the hope that the service would soon begin. But that didn't happen.

Eventually, 60 minutes after the scheduled time of service, Erutere, accompanied by two others, arrived at the West Door to officially receive the corpse and proceeded  with the funeral service.

After the service started, people wondered where the original pastor was, because on several occasions he had enjoined members of the Women’s Guild to be punctual for that particular service and had promised to lead the church delegation to Okpara Inland for the interment.

As the mourners departed the church for Okpara Inland, venue of the interment, there was no word about the sudden death of the vicar of the Agbarho church where another Anglican canon, Rev. Benedict  Akpoguma, took over proceedings. Put simply, neither the mourners nor well wishers, who had travelled from long distances, including Mr. John Salubi of the NNPC, Dr. Francis Eghwubare of Delta State University, Mr. Joshua Onoronimighwu of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Victor Onogagamue of Delta State Sports Commission, Barrister Joseph Ogedegbe, and a  former NBA  Chairman of Ughelli Local Government, were briefed on the reason for the funeral’s delay.

Only the first daughter, Oghenenyoreme, could volunteer comments, although, she was unable to explain the mystery behind the death of her father,  as, according to her, they were trained to submit to the will of God in all circumstances.

However, the daughter said they had prayed together that morning in accordance with family tradition, without any visible signs of danger, and the ebullient father retired to the couch in the sitting room apparently to relax.
“After a while, I noticed that daddy was no longer breathing normally and I raised the alarm to draw my mum’s attention. She quickly called the driver and we carried him to the car and drove straight to the hospital in Warri. That is all I can tell you, because nobody told us anything about his state of health until the bishop came later that day to break the sad news to us,” she tearfully narrated.

Catholic Church Demotes Father Mbaka; 'I'm Going to Suffer' - Mbaka Cries Out

Tears flowed uncontrollably from parishioners and members of the Adoration Ministry as fiery Enugu Catholic priest and director of the ministry, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, yesterday bowed out of Christ the King Parish, GRA, Enugu, which he presided over as parish priest for 20 years.

The entire Enugu capital city also stood still as over 30 lorries accompanied by thousands of his adoration faithful escorted him in a motorcade to his new parish, Our Lady Parish, Emene, a suburb of the capital city.

Mbaka’s transfer became a topical issue as a section of the society saw it as a punitive measure for his recent prophecies especially that of December 31st 2014, when he predicted that former President Goodluck Jonathan would be defeated in the 2015 elections. This has however been dismissed by the church who explained that the transfer is a routine exercise done every six years by the bishop.

But Mbaka’s transfer as a parish priest to a resident priest, where he will serve under another priest, has raised eyebrows eliciting further comments from close observers.

SunNewsOnline reports that Mbaka himself while handing over formally to his successor yesterday told those around that he was going to suffer, moving from a duplex to a room in his new parish but asked them not to worry that God has bigger plans for him.

Hear him:
“I know we are going to suffer; between now and few months to come, I am going to suffer; I am going to suffer because I have no place to lay my head; I am  going to suffer because I have no place to keep the Ministry’s assets; I know I am going to suffer; fortunately it’s going to happen in the month of Lent; so I am going to use my exit here to observe the Lent.
But Jesus said it to His apostles in John 16:20, ‘You will be sorrowful and the world will be rejoicing but very soon I will turn your sorrows to joy.’ So I am waiting for that moment because for now I know we are going to suffer.
The Adoration Ministry is passing through suffering right now; even though I have accepted it as the will of God; it is the will of God through suffering; it is a mega suffering. But however, the grace of God will carry us all; even though some of you may pray that God should remove this thorn from us, the scripture says ‘His grace is sufficient for us; for its even in your weakness that the power of God is demonstrated. So we are moving but don’t forget the scriptures, ‘my brothers they make me keeper of vineyards, my own vineyard I keepeth not.
All these while we have been keeping vineyards, building for Christ The King Parish…Bishop Gbuji asked them, how much …but because I don’t want to disclose my charity, they can’t keep that account. How many trailer loads of cement came here? All the monies I made from my cassette and other private crusades all of them were used to build this church. We cannot quantify it but let God be glorified.
“It is the will of God; and when the will of God either permissive or however, happens, nobody should question it. All you have today is Amen; so to the will of God Fr. Mbaka has said Amen.”
Mbaka said he welcomed the decision of the church leadership with absolute acceptance and obedience, stating that nobody should see him as a recalcitrant priest. He assured that the parish would not collapse due to his exit, and urged the members to treat his successor, Rev. Fr. Theodore Ozoamalu, well, and to assist him in any way he needs help and not allow him to cry.

His words:
“Don’t starve him; don’t allow him to suffer; in my own time I didn’t need your help because God blessed me in my own unique way and I am happy. God will keep the parish because we have fought the good fight; I am not regretting anything and the highest gift God has given here is his Holy Spirit who assisted me up till now.”

'It Takes a Man Who Has The Fear of God to Relinquish Power so Easily' - Former President Jonathan Says

On 28th of March, 2015, after a tension filled presidential election, Muhammadu Buhari emerged as the new president of Nigeria and Goodluck Jonathan conceded victory to his successor. In a dinner organised in his honour in Geneva, Switzerland last week by Cercle Diplomatique, Jonathan poured out his heart concerning a lot of issues ranging from his foray into politics, Nigeria's well being and why he conceded to President Buhari immediately after the election. He talked about why he made that  historic telephone to congratulate Buhari even when the results were still being tallied.

His full statement during the dinner has just been released and its very revealing! Read below...

He began: “As you can see, I have not come here with a prepared speech, since what I consider appropriate for this occasion is to just thank you all, members and everyone else in attendance, in a few words, for the dinner and the award, in order not to make the evening look boring. But having said that, I am still tempted to note that if I were to present a written speech, the title, would probably have been “Power Tussle in Africa: A Stumbling Block to Economic Growth.” When Mr. Robert Blum, your President, made his very interesting opening remarks, he introduced me as the former President of Nigeria. He was absolutely correct.
"However, I believe that not many of you here know that the story of my foray into politics has a peculiar ring to it. I entered politics in 1998 and, barely one year after, I got elected as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, my state. I later became Governor, Vice President and eventually got elected as the President of my country. I remain the only leader in my country to have travelled that route.
"As the President, I served out my first term but, as Mr. Blum had pointed out earlier, I lost the bid to be re-elected. I am encouraged by the fact that many of you here appreciated my decision not to reject or contest my loss at the polls, not even in the courts as many people had expected.''
"Again, I have to agree with Blum that it was not an easy decision to take. This is because the allure of power and the worries about what would become of you after leaving office constitute an irresistible force. It has an attraction so controlling and powerful that it takes a man who has the fear of God and who loves his people and nation to relinquish power so easily in Africa.
"I was actually in that valley on March 28, 2015. I never knew that the human brain had the capacity for such enhanced rapid thinking. One hundred and one things were going through my mind every second. My country was at the verge of collapse. The tension in the land was abysmally high and palpable, in the months leading to the election. The country became more polarised more than ever before, such that the gap between the North and the South and between Christians and Muslims became quite pronounced.
"In fact, it became so disturbing that some interest groups in the United States began to predict indeed, many Nigerians did buy into this doomsday prophesy as they began to brace themselves for the worst. As the President, I reminded myself that the Government I led had invested so much effort into building our country. I worked hard with my top officials to encourage Nigerians and non-Nigerians to invest in our country to be able to provide jobs and improve the lives of our people.
"We worked hard to grow our economy and to improve and bring Nigeria up as the biggest economy in Africa, with a GDP of about half a trillion dollars”. “Should I then, for the love of power, watch Nigeria slide into a theatre of war, with my fellow country men and women dying, and many more pouring into other nations in Africa and beyond, as refugees? Should I hang on to power and tussle with my challengers, while the investments of hard working citizens of the world go down the drain? I then said to myself, NO!''
I promised my God that I will not let that fate befall Nigeria under my watch, hence the historic telephone call I put through to congratulate my challenger even when the results were still being tallied. I believe that for a country to be great, both the leaders and the led must be prepared to make sacrifices. This is why, everywhere I go, I always advise that the new generation of African leaders must think differently. We can no longer afford to wilfully sacrifice the blood of our citizens on the altar of dangerous partisan politics. It is not worth it.
This reminds me of one of my campaign statements to the effect that my ambition was not worth the shedding of the blood of any Nigerian. Some people took it then as mere political slogan but I knew that I meant it when I said it. ''We must all fight for the enthronement of political stability in Africa, for in it lies the panacea for sustainable growth and development. For Africa to record the kind of advancement that will be competitive and beneficial to our citizens, we must have stable states supported by strong institutions. That appears to be the irreducible minimum that is common to all developed societies. Africa’s political odyssey can distinctly be categorised into three eras, and probably another that would later signpost its classification as a developed continent”.
"Some may doubt this, but it is no fluke that Africa is growing and rising. However I will admit before you here that we still have challenges. That is why people like us did all we could to ensure that Nigeria, the biggest black nation on earth, would not drift into anarchy because such a situation would have spelt doom for the rest of the continent. It would have affected not just Nigeria alone, but the GDP and economy of the entire West Africa. And if the economy of West Africa crashes, it would definitely affect the performance of the economy of the whole of Africa.
As you know, the GDP of Africa is less than three trillion dollars, with only six African countries able to boast of nominal GDP above $100 billion. Even for those in this ‘elite’ category, you can’t really say that they are rich countries. Apart from maybe South Africa that has an industrially competitive economy, the rest are still mainly commodity exporting countries. Even the case of that of South Africa is not very encouraging, because we have a situation which we could refer to as a first world economic performance, yet the ordinary people live the life of the people in the so called third world.''
In the case of Nigeria which is even the biggest economy on the continent, the reality is that we have an unenviable per capita GDP of $3,203, which is the World Bank average for a period covering 2011-2015.'' “Even then, I still believe that Africa has a bright future; a promising prognosis that is supported by the fact that the continent remains a very fertile and attractive territory that yields irresistible returns on investments. I believe that in the next few years many more big investors will be jostling to come to Africa, if only we will do the right thing. The process of getting it right has already started with a democratic and increasingly democratising Africa. But we have to deepen and strengthen our democratic credentials through regular, free and fair elections. This will in turn bring about the stability necessary to improve the infrastructure that promotes rapid economic growth. These are the guarantees that would lead us into the next period which I would like to call the era of a developed Africa. I have no doubt in my mind that we will get there some day.
"I will be applying myself diligently to two key areas. First, is to work for good governance by promoting credible and transparent elections. This will bring about the strengthening of our institutions and the enthronement of stability. I also believe that there is the urgent need to create jobs for our teeming young population. This is another area that will be receiving my attention.
I recall that the Vice President of your association made reference in his speech to my achievements in that regard through what we called Youth Enterprises with Innovation (YouWin) and the Nagropreneur programme which encouraged young people to go into agriculture. I believe more programmes like that should be established to promote youth entrepreneurship. That way, we reduce their reliance on paid employment. We will not only teach them to become entrepreneurs, they will also acquire the capacity to employ other people. We will be paying special attention to this segment of our society, especially young people and women.
We will develop programmes that will inculcate in them business skills to be able to set up micro, small and medium enterprises. We shall assist them to access take-off grants when they acquire the relevant skills and capacities. There are many areas that they can go into; food processing, light manufacturing and the services sector are just some of them. I can tell you from experience that this works. As we speak, Our Nagropreneur programme, to promote youth involvement in agriculture value chain, is being scaled up by the African Development Bank presently. It is already being replicated in 19 African countries because of the success of the programme in Nigeria.
I invite all of you here today, cabinet ministers, diplomats and private sector people to remain committed to the cause of improving lives, especially those lives in Africa, and making our world a better place. For those of you that will be sharing in this vision for Africa, I assure you that you will not be disappointed. I am very optimistic that if we encourage young men and women in this continent to develop businesses of their own, the story of Africa will change within 10 years”.

Cult Leader Insists on S*x to Initiate Secondary School Female Members(Report)

Eight secondary school students were recently arrested by the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for being cult members.

The suspects, five boys and three girls were between ages of 14 and 16 belong to the Eiye fraternity.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the leader of the gang who initiated the female members reportedly had sex with them to welcome them to the group. They were arrested in Akure by officials of the command following a tip off.

Parading the suspects, the State Commander of the Corps, Mr. Ayinla Adeyinka said that a former
student of the school came back to the school to initiate the under-aged students.
“The former student of the secondary schools was the one that came to the school to persuade the students to join his group. He had sex with the female ones to initiate them.”
The NSCDC boss said that the suspects met every Friday in the school premises.

Adeyinka pointed out that the command was still investigating and would soon charge them to court

Speaking with newsmen, one of the female suspect confessed that three of them were initiated by her boyfriend who is a student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo identified as ‘Sergeant’

The 15-year-old suspect said she joined the group in November last year when Sergeant introduced the group to her and her friends .

According to her:
He had sex with the three of us in his house and after the sex he inflicted cuts in our hands to take our blood and told us that we had joined his group.’’
She added that they used to meet inside the bush at the back of their school every Friday after the school hours.

The NSCDC commandant said the command had been on the trail of the other fleeing suspects and assured that they would soon be arrested.

DRAMA! Girl: You & Your Friends R*ped Me || Boy: That's A Lie, You're My Girlfriend

Four friends - Femi Olatunji, 17; Oyekanmi Rasheed, 18; Oladele Habib, 18 and John Alade, 16, are currently held by the Police net in Lagos, for allegedly raping 14yrs old Habibat (real names withheld).

Speaking to Punch when the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos Command paraded some suspected criminals recently, Habibat said the friends threatened to kill her if she told anybody about the incident.

Narrating her ordeal, the young girl who said she had known Femi as her tailor, said she went to him to have her dress mended when he and his friends pounced on her...

“Femi had once told me he would want to marry me and I told him I wasn’t interested. That particular day, I had gone to his shop to give him a dress to fix for me. He said Brother Abidoye (I used to run errands for him) was calling me. I got to Brother Abidoye’s room and I didn’t see him.

“At that point, Femi and his friends entered the room, switched off the light and they r*ped me. I tried shouting and calling for help but because they had tied my mouth, I couldn’t shout very well.

“When they finished, my private part was paining me. I had to tell my mother what happened. That was when she alerted the police and the boys were arrested,” she said.

However, the young men claimed they didn’t r*pe her saying it was a consensual act.

Speaking to our correspondent, Femi said Habibat has been his girlfriend for about a year and he actually paid her for the s*x they had.

“She is just lying against me. We have been dating since last year. She is more than 14 years old. She came to my shop that day and I suggested to her that we should enter the room. She said I should give her money. I asked her how much she wanted and she said N1,000. I gave her and we went inside and we had s*x.

“My friends were outside. We couldn’t have held her hand. A lot of people were even outside. If we had forced her, people would have seen us. Her dad even met me and asked if I would accept her as my wife if she gets pregnant and I said I would because she is my girlfriend. Her dad said I should go because I didn’t have a problem. I have been sleeping with her since because she is my girlfriend.

In his own defence, Oyekanmi said Habibat readily agreed to have s*x with him.

“We were at Femi’s place and she and Femi entered the room. Later on, I entered the room because I wanted to charge my phone. I didn’t see Femi there but I saw the girl n*ked. She wasn’t crying. So I told her I wanted to have s*x with her and she said I should go ahead.”

Oladele as well, insisted Habibat collected money from Femi and also agreed to have s*x with them.

“She was very comfortable with what we did. When I got to the room, I told her she should allow me to take my own turn and she readily agreed. Nobody held her. People have been sleeping with her. This wasn’t the first time. We all know her in our area. She readily gives to anybody who asks for it."
