US-based Nigerian Musician Sentenced For Attempting to Steal $3.5 Million in Tax Refunds

A Nigerian musician based in St. Louis pleaded guilty to stealing tax refunds last year and was sentenced to over three years in federal prison on Thursday, April 21.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Olufunso Adesina, a guitarist  tried to steal more than $3 million in fake tax refunds but many didn't go through. He ended up collecting nearly $800,000 from more than 50 refunds by filing false tax returns under other people’s names.

In November 2015, the U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis announced charges against Adesina. Prosecutors say Adeshina has left the area, and urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Internal Revenue Service's criminal investigation division.

Prosecutors say Adeshina participated in a stolen identity tax fraud scheme. IRS investigators allegedly found tax refunds due to several people deposited in numerous accounts in the name of Adeshina or businesses he controlled. The criminal complaint claims that nearly $200,000 has flowed into more than 20 accounts controlled by Adeshina since the start of the year.

Three local banks helped investigators in the bust after noticing suspicious behavior. Adeshina could face a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

'Marriage Could be a Distraction For me at This Point in my Career' - Popular Singer/Father of Two, Flavour Says(Video)

In a recent interview with Hip TV, singer Flavour who has two babymamas, Sandra Okagbue and Anna Banner, says marriage could be a distraction for any successful artiste, especially him and that most successful artiste who are at the peak of their craft, crash once they get married
"Marriage is not a thing that you just go into. This music business is a serious business. My own opinion, I think if you are in the peak of your career, you don't need any distraction. So for now I think marriage could be a distraction for me because it is a whole big institution that when you go in, you have to be fully prepared to know what you are getting into.

And right now looking at everything, its not so easy for me now....and most of my colleagues, whenever they get married, everything starts crashing down. I keep asking people, have you ever seen a successful musician having a good home and a good career? Its not going to be easy. If you know one, just tell me"he said. Watch the video below...

Man Stabs Lover to Death For Refusing His Marriage Proposal(Photo)

A man working with MTN as a franchise officer, reportedly stabbed his lover, Tosin Ashinwa to death in Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State, for refusing his marriage proposal.

The man also stabbed her mother, who tried to settle the dispute between the two. The lady’s mother escaped death with serious injuries, while the lover lost her life.

Sources said the lady’s mother was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where she was receiving treatment. Investigations revealed that the lovers, who had been going out for some time, had also been involved in serious argument over the issue of marriage.

Investigations revealed that the duo, who had reportedly been going out for some time, had also been having serious argument over issue of marriage, with Tosin, said to be in her 30s, always insisting that she could not marry the man because he allegedly went out with several other women at the same time.

It was learnt that they went out on Sunday night and returned to the girl’s house at Tanke area of Ilorin where the mother had also come to visit her daughter.

Early yesterday morning, the argument resurfaced with the girl still maintaining her position. The man was said to have threatened to kill the lady if she refused his proposal.

It was at the height of the argument that the lady’s mother came out of her room to settle the dispute. The man was said to have dashed into the kitchen, picked up a knife and attacked the two women. While he succeeded in killing his lover, the mother sustained injuries before neighbours were alerted to the scene by the woman’s cries for help.

However, Newtelegraph reports that another version claimed that the man, who is currently on the run, had first reported for duty at his office on the University of Ilorin Road before he told his colleagues he wanted to go and pick something at home. A source, who saw the body of the lady, said she was stabbed several times in the neck and around the back of the armpit.

An autopsy was to be conducted on her body at the UITH yesterday to enable the institution to file a proper report.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident. He said the police were already on the trail of the fleeing suspect.
