Family Of Woman Killed By Soldier On Her Daughter's Wedding Day Seeks Justice As C.O Offers N200k As Compensation

The family of Mrs Alice Akparobi Orobogha who was shot dead by a soldier in Delta State has demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

The Commanding Officer of the 3 Battalion Effurun Division, Major Azanku, offered a paltry N200,000 as compensation to the family to avoid a legal battle. But the family turned down the offer.

The middle aged level twelve judicial officer with Oleh High Court, was on her way to her daughter's wedding when she was killed by one of the soldiers deployed to enforce the no-movement restriction during environmental sanitation at Jakpa Junction, Uvwie council area of Delta State on April 30, 2016.

According to Sahara Reporters, the son of the deceased, Shedrack Aktarobi, appealed to the State and federal governments to immediately intervene in the matter and ensure that the culprits are held accountable for their actions.

The deceased reportedly boarded a commercial tricycle to a relative’s home near the venue of the wedding in order to make it on time, due to the restriction of movement. The soldiers were said to have flagged down the tricyclist claiming it was not yet 10 a.m. When the driver refused to stop, one of the soldiers fired a at the tricycle, as the rider was apparently not going to stop, killing the woman.

A human rights activist, Rockson Igelige, has lent his voice to the demand for the prosecution of the officer involved in the heinous act by the appropriate security agencies. Mr. Igelige warned that shielding the perpetrator from justice would encourage more killings as their actions would go unpunished.

On the Tiwa Savage & Teebillz marriage issues, he said,
"I don't want to make comment about it. It's very sensitive. I have made up my mind not to say anything about it. The way people are taking it.. You know, we are talking about life and death here. It's very sensitive and I would never comment. I would do anything to support and love them."

When asked if all celebrity marriages fail, he said, "it's not true. I don't believe that."

On keeping a good marriage, he also said,
"Just be yourself. Don't change just because you got married. Because I am married today, they say stop taking off your shirt. Stop behaving like as if you are not married. Listen, some people get married and they start living some kind of life just because they are married. I don't believe in people saying because you are married you shouldn't wear some kind of outfits. Any little thing, they'll say - don't you know you are married?. C'mon. Some people make marriage look very boring. I have seen boring marriages whereby people get married, they forget that, I mean you married your friend.

Ever since I got married & before I got married, my wife is like my friend. I love my wife to look sexy. I love when she wears some nice dresses that she normally wears. I don't want her to change because she's married. To start tying agbada. I'm sorry but it's people that make marriage look very boring. I don't want to belong there. I'm Peter Okoye and I remain Peter Okoye. I got married, I am Mr Peter Okoye and I still remain that way. I don't change for nobody. Trust Me"

Cultist Arrested For Dropping Human Head On The Road

The police in Lagos State have arrested a 23-year-old suspected cultist, Idris Adebayo, who confessed to have dropped the head of a rival cult member on the Old Apapa Road, in the Oyingbo area of the state.

Adebayo, who said he put the head in a polythene bag, added that the victim was killed by his gang members and the head dumped by the roadside because he came to visit his girlfriend in their territory.

Punch Metro had reported on October 15, 2015, that some hoodlums at the Olokodana Junction of the road dropped a severed head.

The Iponri Police Division, where the matter was reported, was said to have removed the head and taken it to a morgue.

The then Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, had told our correspondent that the police had launched a manhunt for the killers.

On Thursday, Adebayo and Gafar Ayoola were both arrested by the Denton Police Division in the Otto area as two of the suspected killers.

It was gathered that Ayoola, during interrogation, developed a health condition and was rushed to a private hospital where he later died.

It was reported on Monday that his family members had, however, alleged that he was tortured to death by a policeman at the station.

Adebayo had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, where further investigation was ongoing on the matter.

Adebayo said his gang leader, identified as Dagbe, had killed the rival member and they dumped his body in a stream on San Siro Street, Otto.

Adebayo added that the head of the deceased was handed over to him in a polythene bag to dispose of.

He said, “We were four that killed the man. Dagbe, Aloma, Kashir and I ambushed him and cut off his head. His offence was that he came to our territory to visit his girlfriend. We thought he had come to spy on us.

“Dagbe gave the rival member’s head to me to dump at where people would see him. Two persons and I took a tricycle and when we got to Olokodana, I dropped the head from the polythene bag. The victim’s body had already been dumped in a stream.

“I know Gafar (Ayoola) very well. He was one of our gang members. He and Aloma used to walk together. He was in the same gang with Dagbe. I was arrested on Saturday.”

A resident of Old Apapa Road, who gave his name only as Baba Toheeb, said the police should flush out all the criminal elements in the area.

He said, “Idris (Adebayo) and Gafar (Ayoola) are members of a gang known as Omo oniyan. There was a time a mob caught them and handed them over to the police at the Iponri division. They were tried and sent to court. Gafar just finished serving a jail term last year.

“We want the police to intensify security in our area. The Denton division is trying, but we want them to do more.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest.

She said, “The boy has confessed that his gang members cut off their victim’s head. Effort is on to arrest other members of the gang.”
