Governor Fayose Is Undermining Our Authority - PDP

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, of undermining the party's authority by delving into the affairs of the party's National Working Community.

The National secretary of the party, Wale Oladipo, stated this today while addressing reports that Fayose had asked that the party's South West Congress slated for today to continue despite a court injunction secured by the National Working Committee preventing the congress from holding.

Oladipo lamented that Fayose's attitude was unbecoming and that he needs to learn good behavior from other PDP governors like his Ondo state counterpart, Olusegun Mimiko
“Governor Fayose is not a member of the national working committee of the PDP, but he’s causing confusion with his utterances. We are not dabbling into his government and he has no right to tell us how to run the party here. We have an order of the court stopping the congress. The governor cannot overrule the court. He should behave like other governors who do not dabble into the running of the party at the national level. He should learn from Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State who respect the party and the president of the country. The order of the court was even published in three national dailies and therefore, he can’t deny he was not aware. Our national legal adviser who is the chief legal adviser of the party, Mr. Victor Kwon, has advised that we comply with the order and we are complying with it. We are not above the law of the land. Those who want to claim they want to organise any conference are doing that on their own, not on behalf of the party. Whatever comes out of it would be null and void because we are not monitoring it.”he said

President Buhari To Name Looters On May 29th(Read)

The president revealed this in an interview in London yesterday, before he returned to Abuja. President Buhari said that the names of corrupt Nigerians will be made public in a speech he intends to deliver on May 29 and that those named will be prosecuted.
 He also said he was coming after people bombing and destroying pipelines in the Niger Delta;

“So far, what has come out, what has been recovered in whatever currency from each ministries, departments and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this because all Nigerians are getting from the mass media because of the number of people arrested either by the EFCC, DSS. But we want to make a comprehensive report on the 29th.
On whether the names of those indicted will be published, he said:
“Yes, eventually, it has to be done because we want to successfully prosecute them. But you know you cannot go to the courts unless you have documents for prosecution.

“People signed for these monies into their personal accounts, their banks gave statements that the money is there, when it came, how much and so on.”
Also speaking on allegation of selective prosecution, Buhari said:
“That is an accusation against the law enforcement agencies. But I assure you that we do not interfere. Try and get those who are now under arrest, you will find out it is across the board.”
On Militants...

"What I know is that I was elected by the whole country and the least I can do is to keep the country together somehow. I assure you we will develop the capacity to do it. If you can recall, the militants, I appointed a retired Brigadier General (Boroh). When I give people assignment, I develop terms of reference for them and I allow them to do their work. I understand the problem. I spoke with the Chief of Naval Staff and other service chiefs to work with him and help him to make sure that those who are blowing the installations, sabotaging investments in Nigeria, we will deal with them eventually.”

On the killer herdsmen, Buhari said they are non-Nigerians who came into Nigeria from Libya.

"because of what happened in Libya, when Ghadaffi, during his 43 year-regime, trained some people from the Sahel militarily. When his regime was overthrown, those people were dispatched to their countries. They found themselves in the Boko Haram and others.
“It is a major regional and virtually African problem now. There is one called Al Qaeda, there is Boko Haram and so on. It is a governmental project now to trace them, disarm them, try them and discipline them.”

He said the Fulani herdsmen “culturally do not stay in one place; they move with the season.
“Normally, harvest is complete much earlier in the North. They have to go southwards for greener pasture.

“Initially, there was what they call cattle routes and grazing areas. They were marked. Infrastructures were put in terms of dams and veterinary clinics.
“Later, the big ogas that came, took over these places and turned them to farms. If we have like 500 cattle, if they do not eat for 24 hours or they want water, you can’t stop them.
“But what they used to do then, if anybody goes outside, he would be arrested, taken before a court and he is fined. If he can pay, the money is taken and given to the farmer. If he can’t pay, the cattle is sold and the farmer is paid. So, people are behaving well.

“So, when people came and took away the land for the cattle route and grazing area, you find out that from Kaduna to Bayelsa, Nigerians are fighting cattle rearers now.
“When I was in PTF, we made a comprehensive study of cattle routes and grazing areas throughout Nigeria. So, I am referring the Governors’ Forum to it and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. Let them see what they can do and save the situation.”
On 2016 Budget implementation, he said:
“It depends on the efficiency of the technocrats. Yes, we have six months to implement the budget. You know why there was a delay. There is something called padding. I have been in government since 1975. I was governor of what is now six states: Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, that used to be North East. Then I was in Obasanjo’s cabinet, Petroleum for three and a quarter years. I was Head of State for 20 months.

“I had never heard about that one padding until this year. And what does it mean? It means that the technocrats just allowed the government to make its noise, to go and make the presentation to the National Assembly. They will remove it and put in their own.
“When we uncovered this, we just had to go back to the basics again. Ministers had to go again and appear before the Minister of Budget and National Planning and make presentations again. This was clearly brought out by the Minister of Health.

“I saw with my own eyes, nobody told me. I was watching NTA and he appeared before a committee that said the minister should come and defend his budget. He looked at what was presented to him as his budget and he said he had nothing to defend, that that was not what he presented.

“Subsequently, we discovered that it was not only the ministry of health. So they allowed us to talk rubbish as government and they do what they like.”

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo Explains The Reason For Increase in Fuel Price

Vice president, Yemi Osibanjo has explained the reason for the recent increase in fuel price. He said it's more of an exchage problem more than a subsidy removal issue.

Read the statement below...

Fellow Citizens:
I have read the various observations about the fuel pricing regime and the attendant issues generated. All certainly have strong points.
The most important issue of course is how to shield the poor from the worst effects of the policy.  I will hopefully address that in another note.
Permit me an explanation of the policy. First, the real issue  is not a removal of subsidy. At $40 a barrel there isn't much of a subsidy to remove.

In any event, the President is probably one of the most convinced pro-subsidy advocates.

What happened is as follows: our local consumption of fuel is almost entirely imported. The NNPC exchanges crude from its joint venture share to provide about 50% of local fuel consumption. The remaining 50% is imported by major and independent marketers.

These marketers up until three months ago sourced their foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria at the official rate. However, since late last year, independent marketers have brought in little or no fuel because they have been unable to get foreign exchange from the CBN. The CBN simply did not have enough. (In April, oil earnings dipped to $550 million. The amount required for fuel importation alone is about $225million!) .

Meanwhile, NNPC tried to cover the 50% shortfall by dedicating more export crude for domestic consumption. Besides the short term depletion of the Federation Account, which is where the FG and States are paid from, and further cash-call debts pilling up, NNPC also lacked the capacity to distribute 100% of local consumption around the country. Previously, they were responsible for only about 50%. (Partly the reason for the lingering scarcity).

We realised that we were left with only one option. This was to allow independent marketers and any Nigerian entity to source their own foreign exchange and import fuel. We expect that foreign exchange will be sourced at an average of about N285 to the dollar, (current interbank rate). They would then be restricted to selling at a price between N135 and N145 per litre.

We expect that with competition, more private refineries, and NNPC refineries working at full capacity, prices will drop considerably. Our target is that by Q4 2018 we should be producing 70% of our fuel needs locally. At the moment even if all the refineries are working optimally they will produce just about 40% of our domestic fuel needs.

You will notice that I have not mentioned other details of the PPRA cost template. I wanted to focus on the cost component largely responsible for the substantial rise, namely foreign exchange. This is therefore not a subsidy removal issue but a foreign exchange problem, in the face of dwindling earnings.

Thank you all.

Body of Missing Nigerian Medical Student, Found in Lake Michigan(Photos)

A body pulled out of Lake Michigan near Promontory Point Park on Sunday, May 8th, has been identified as a medical student who had been missing for more than two weeks.

28-year-old Ambrose Monye(pictured above) was a fourth-year medical student at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico and was on a two-year rotation at Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Centre in Chicago.

He was last seen on April 21, walking towards the University of Chicago's John Crerar Library, a medical research library at 5730 S. Ellis Av.

Family members say Monye’s disappearance was strange because he was preparing to graduate in a few weeks. His younger brother said all the lights were on at Monye's apartment, and the refrigerator was full of groceries when police went to check on him after he was reported missing.

"He’s just four weeks from his goal. His tickets to graduation are already bought for the ceremony. He ordered his cap and gown and everything," Joseph Monye,(pictured) Ambrose’s younger brother, told Dateline NBC before he was found. "I still have hope that my brother is out there, but it’s hard to be optimistic since it’s been so long."

“He frequents the coffee shops in the Hyde Park neighborhood,” Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Officer Laura Amezaga told NewsOne

On May 8, a body was discovered at 5400 S. Lake Shore Drive. It took a few days, but the body was identified as that of Monye, Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Officer Nicole Trainor told NewsOne.

"He has been identified and now it’s a death investigation,” Trainor said. “It’s an investigation to determine the cause of the death."

Trainor said it’s unclear if foul play was involved, or even when Monye’s body entered the lake. If any sort of foul play is discovered, the death investigation would become a homicide investigation.

Joseph Monye, also a medical student, said he last spoke to his brother just before his disappearance and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Monye was a quiet and soft-spoken athlete who was interested in pursuing a career in cardiology.

The brothers are from outside of Baltimore, and come from a family of doctors. Joseph said their lives revolved around studying and more studying.

"That's literally all we do, because we don't want to encounter any kind of problems, so we just keep to ourselves. We focus on our studies, and mind our business, and it's odd enough this happened," Joseph said.

A cause of death has not yet been determined.

President Buhari Deceived Nigerians - Falana

Read His full press statement below...

During the campaign last year, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari pledged that if elected as President by the Nigerian people his administration would not remove fuel subsidy. Since he won the election last year President Buhari has consistently resisted pressures from the neo-liberal characters in the government to remove fuel subsidy and increase the price of petrol. On January 18, 2016 the federal government allayed the fear of Nigerians when the price of petrol was reduced to N86.50k per litre. In justifying the decision to the people the federal government claimed that the reduction was due to an implementation of the revised component of the Petroleum Products Pricing Template for PMS and household kerosene.

It would be recalled that following the popular agitation against the removal of fuel subsidy in 2012, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources had announced the decision of the Goodluck Jonathan administration to set up 30 green field refineries in the country.

Shortly thereafter, the policy was jettisoned due to pressure from the cabal of local fuel importers. In 2013, the Jonathan administration secured a loan of $1.6 billion for the maintenance of the country’s four refineries. At the end of the repairs the refineries could only refine about 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day instead of 445,000 barrels earmarked for domestic consumption.

The Buhari administration has also spent millions of dollars for the so called turn around maintenance of the refineries. Barely a month ago, Dr. Kachikwu had announced that fuel subsidy had been removed through his ingenuity. In celebrating the “success” recorded by him in the management of the petroleum industry he disclosed that Nigeria was saving $1 billion in subsidy removal and $1 billion in fuel importation. He also stated that “for the first time, our refineries are ready to work now. Crude has been pumped from Brass to Port Harcourt.

Pipeline is being used for the first time in 10 years for the first time in six years. For the first time we are able to pump to Ilorin, we have not done that in 10 years.” (Nigerian Tribune, March 16, 2016). Curiously, Dr. Kachikwu’s “giant strides” in the petroleum industry appear to have collapsed completely before our very eyes!

Hence, without any public debate or consultation with relevant stakeholders whatsoever the federal government took the Nigerian people by surprise yesterday when it decided to increase the pump price of petrol from N86.50k to N145 per litre. Not too long ago, the federal government had supported the imposition of higher tariffs paid on epileptic supply of electricity by consumers.

In sentencing the Nigerian people to excruciating economic agony the Ministry of Power defied a court order which had restrained the government from giving effect to the proposed electricity tariff. In the same vein, the decision to increase the price of petrol is also illegal and contemptuous. In the case of Bamidele Aturu versus Attorney-General of the Federation (unreported suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/591/2009) the Federal High Court declared illegal and unconstitutional the policy decision of the federal government to deregulate the downstream sector of the petroleum industry contrary to the combined effect of the provisions of the Price Control Act and the Petroleum Act.

In total defiance of the said order of the federal high court the federal government has deregulated the downstream sector of the petroleum industry. In justifying the illegal policy, Dr. Kachikwu claimed that “PPPRA has informed me that it will be announcing a new price band effective today, 11th May, 2016 and that the new price for PMS will not be above N145 per litre.”

Since the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) which is statutorily empowered to recommend the price of petroleum products has not been reconstituted the unilateral decision of the Executive Secretary of the body to fix the pump price at N145 per litre is ultra vires and illegal in every material particular. In view of the illegality, insensitivity and immorality of the price increase the federal government should cancel it, revert to the status quo and consult widely with all relevant stakeholders in the society.

However, due to the ongoing fuel crisis in the country the Directorate of Petroleum Resources (DPR) recently invited fresh bids for the setting up modular refineries. At the end of the screening exercise sometime in March this year the DPR announced that it had awarded 22 licences for modular refineries with combined capacities to refine 1.429 million barrels of crude oil per day. If the policy is genuinely pursued the construction of the refineries ought to be completed within the 9-12 months. If such refineries are established in the country the importation of fuel and the fraud associated with it will stop. In the interim, instead of importing oil from Europe and the United States the NNPC should refine crude oil for domestic consumption in neighbouring countries which have functional refineries. After all, Nigeria refines 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day in Cote d’ivoire which is not an oil producing nation.

If subsidy had been removed over a month ago and the country has been saving $2 billion (from fuel importation and subsidy removal) while the refineries are now working at full capacity Dr. Kachikwu should tell Nigerians the justification for the new removal of fuel subsidy announced by him yesterday. The cost elements that make up the N145 are provocative. If the total landing cost of a litre and other charges are fixed at N138 what is the basis of fixing the price at N145? For goodness sake, why should motorists be made to pay NPA/NIMASA charges, demurrage within and without /storage/ bridging charges etc?

At this stage President Buhari ought to prevent neo-liberal ideologues from hijacking the administration for the purpose of punishing the Nigerian people for the looting of the treasury and mismanagement of the national economy. Contrary to the position of the parasitic ruling class that prices of goods and services be fixed by market forces the federal government has a legal obligation to protect the people from exploitation. For instance, the virtual collapse of electricity supply has forced many corporate bodies and individuals to invest heavily in generators and diesel throughout the country. Although the price of diesel has crashed all over the world it has continued to increase in Nigeria due to manipulation. The federal government should, as a matter of urgency, abolish the monopoly in the importation and sale of diesel. There is no justification for the monopolistic control of goods and services under a free market economy!

Empire Star Jussie Smollet Reportedly Fired From Show Because He Wanted More Money

According to MediaTakeOut, Jussie Smollet announced yesterday that his time on the hit show is done a day after he took a bullet for his dad in the show and people have been wondering why he's leaving. Read what MT O claims happened below...

What happened? Well Jussie and his reps tried to get GREEDY, according to an insider who works with the show. The insider explained, "Terrence [Howard] and Taraji [Henson] are the stars of the show, and they are going to be paid as stars. But the rest aren't going to make huge sums from the show."

As MediaTakeOut.com reported LAST SEASON, Taraji ad Terrence Howard threatened to PULLOUT of Empire when they didn't get a raise. But MediaTakeOut.com's insider explained how FOX managed to get Taraji and Terrence to return. The insider explained, "the contracts were set, so there was nothing that FOX could do to give [Terrence and Taraji] more money. So instead, they did all those one off specials that [the two stars] hosted, and got them paid that way."
Jussie wasn't given the same opportunities - so he was NOT getting paid like a star on the hottest show on television.

MediaTakeOut.com's snitch continued, "Jussie wasn't asking for way too much money - just a nice raise. But the people at FOX were like no,there was no money left in the budget."
Last night Jussie announced that he is leaving the show.

Photo : Onitsha Is The World’s Most Polluted City - WHO

Onitsha, in Nigeria’s South East, has been named the world’s most polluted city, according to data obtained from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Onitsha produced pollution “levels of nearly 600 micrograms per cubic metre of PM10s – around 30 times the WHO recommended level of 20 micrograms per cubic metre,” to get the unenviable rating.

Onitsha, along with three other Nigerian cities, Aba, Kaduna and Umuahia, featured in the top 20.

Onitsha’s figures are nearly twice as bad as notoriously polluted cities such as Kabul, Beijing and Tehran and 30 times worse than London.

“Air pollution has risen by eight percent globally in the past five years,” resulting in three million premature deaths yearly, WHO says.

A recent study of Onitsha’s water pollution found more than 100 petrol stations in the city, often selling low-quality fuel, dozens of unregulated rubbish dumps, major fuel spills and high levels of arsenic, mercury, lead, copper and iron in its water.

The city’s many metal industries, private hospitals and workshops were all said to be heavy polluters emitting chemical, hospital and household waste and sewage.

Curiously, Lagos was not on the table of the latest urban air quality data, collected between 2011 and 2015.

'Selling For My Mom Helped Shape The Woman I Have Become' - Actress Genevieve Nnaji Says

In a revealing interview with Venture Africa, Nollywood screen goddess - Genevieve NNaji, reveals the vital role her childhood played in shaping the woman she has become. She said selling for her mom taught her to be humble and appreciative of what she has.

Talking about her movie Road to Yesterday, she revealed that it was during on of her mind journey mixed with stories her mother had told her that inspired her to write the movie.

She talked about her family, her company, leaving school to pursue acting and her first movie role.

Read excerpts of the interview below...

Speaking about her childhood, she said "“I was a tomboy. I had three brothers right behind me. My sisters were too busy with themselves – you know how elder sisters are. I played football on the street,” Genevieve told me. She also used to engage in fistfights with the boys who lived in her compound. “I got into a fight with a neighbor of mine who was a boy and I beat him up… I was six years old. We were mates and he was fat. He definitely asked for it and he got it,”

On how helping his mother shaped her " She traded, she sold stuff, she got her children to sell stuff for her and we had to. We had no choice. We were living in her house. We cried. She did things you needed to do at that time. Your friends are not doing it. Why should you be the one to be doing it? You’re embarrassed about it, but I’m grateful for that because I think if I wasn’t even given that chance to be humble, I probably wouldn’t appreciate what I have today and understand that it doesn’t make me better than the next person. And I just know that everyone is equal and everyone is entitled to love and respect."

On her first movie role 'Most Wanted' she said "My role was to interview Regina Askia, a former beauty queen turned actress who was a goddess at that time. That was major. I had to pull it off as a pro and I did it, and the producers asked me if I had done it before and I said no. They were amazed at my confidence—probably I had some training in church or something— but I remember I enjoyed doing it,”.

I Make Money When I’m Insulted On Social Media – Popular Actress Says

Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola-Salako, got more than she bargained for last week when she aired her opinion about gender equality as fans and foes abused her nonstop.

Foluke had said the role of a man and a woman is not the same as men are meant to be the head while women should submit to them.

This did not go down well with some of her followers on Instagram as they pounced on her, abusing her and calling her unprintable names. The actress did not take it easy with them as she lashed back at them. Before long, a war of words ensued.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress explained why she blew a fuse. According to Foluke, unknown to many, she intentionally created the crisis because such rancor actually strengthens her
brand and fetch her more money.

She said:
“The backlash is nothing to me, I just wanted to drive home a point. My own stand point is that of most reasonable women. Take for instance, Omotola Jalade has come a long way and she has been able to keep her home. It is just because she has a little bit of feminism in her. She has been able to balance her home and her career and that is why she has been successful.

At the end of the day when people are talking, they should be able to think deeply and not just talk from the surface. The funny thing is that things like that increase my fan base. If there was no conflict, no one would go to my page to find out what is going on. It makes my account more active and the more the merrier for me. Don’t forget that I am a brand, when things like that happen, it is more money for me. It is an advantage to me.
The reason I actually answered was because I wanted to create a crisis. When Foluke talks, everyone would want to know what is happening and that is what makes the world more interesting.”

“What got me upset was the fact that there are some things people talk about but they are not able to back it up with facts. When you say gender equality, the role of a man can never be de-emphasised to the role of a woman. That is why Hillary and Bill Clinton cannot be the president of the US at the same time. Bill Clinton had to teach her the grinds and she followed suit.

The bible says that the man would love the woman and she would submit and respect the man. That position can never be overemphasised. I just wanted to drive some message home but later on, I felt it was not really worth it. When you have a bad mindset, there is no how another person can change it.

My own position as a gender-based activist is not for the woman to be competing with the man but to complement him. In the scheme of things, the man would always be the head and the woman would be the neck. It does not mean that the woman cannot turn the head to whatever direction she feels like.''
