Sad : Popular Actor, Fatai Onibuade Is Dead

 Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into another round of mourning as a popular Yoruba actor, Ajiboye Fatai Onibuade fondly called Legend, has passed.

 According to reports, Ajiboye died in a hospital in Ikeja, Lagos State on May 17, 2016.

Legend reportedly collapsed in his living room before he was taken to hospital.

 The role interpreter, who was an executive of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has since been buried according to Islamic injunctions.

Gunmen Kidnap Kwara State's APC Chairman & Secretary

 The Chairman and the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state, Ishola Balogun Fulani and Chief Bode Adekanye, were both kidnapped at gun point along Lokoja Okene road in Kogi state yesterday May 20th.

 According to the publicity secretary of the party in the state, Sulyman Buhari, the politicians were kidnapped at about 10am.

“We received a call from the line of the chairman around this time, (10am) telling us of the kidnapping issue. No ransom was mentioned and all attempts to make further enquiries from them proved abortive as the line was no longer available”. “We are on it to see if we can still establish a link with them. We have taken all the necessary steps and linked up with relevant security operatives to ensure their safety and eventual release,” he said.

Ronke Shonde Buried Yesterday, as Police Charge Husband For Murdering Her With 'Blow to the Head'

 Tears flowed at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos state, as the remains of 36-year-old Ronke Shonde, who was allegedly killed by her husband, Lekan, were buried on Friday.

 The small group of mourners at the sight made of her family and close friends, could not hold back their tears as the deceased’s first child, aged six, suddenly let out a cry when Ronke was lowered into the grave.

 The children were said to have earlier taken a gaze at the remains of their mother at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, but the reality of her death struck as she was laid in the earth.

The solemn ceremony, lasted only about 15 minutes.

Ronke’s mother was left at home, while her uncle, who owned the publishing company where she worked before her death, was said to have traveled abroad.

No family member or relation of her husband was present at the burial.

It was gathered that the corpse left the LASUTH mortuary around 2pm and was conveyed in a hired hearse.

As the hearse bearing her body arrived the cemetery, a pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Destiny Sanctuary, where Ronke worshipped at their home in Egbeda, called for the singing of a hymn. His sermon thereafter lasted just few minutes.

 Everybody initially held back their emotions while the homily lasted until the deceased’s first child led the gathering in a flood of tears.

 Meanwhile, an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of alleged wife killer, Lekan Shonde, in prison for 30 days. Lekan was arraigned yesterday morning on charges of murder by the police. He is alleged to have killed his wife, Ronke Shonde at their Egbeda flat and fled.

The charge reads: “That you Shonde Olalekan, on May 5, 2016, at about 2030 hours at No. 3, Tiemo Street, Egbeda, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill one Ronke Shonde, ‘F’ age 37, by giving her fist blow on her head, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

When he was asked if he understood the charge, Shonde asked for the last paragraph to be re-read, after which he replied, “I didn’t kill her.”


The case was adjourned till 24th of June.

 Nollywood actress - Christabel Goddy, may be new in the industry but she already knows how it feels to be in the middle of a controversy.

 She is the actress who allegedly bit off the skin of her colleague, Princess Chineke, during a fight some months ago. Since then, she has been dubbed the ‘cannibal actress,’ a name she says she detests.

Christabel spoke with Saturday Beats in a new interview and lashed out at the then Actors Guild of Nigeria president, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who banned her from AGN and allegedly supported actress Chineke.

 According to Christabel, she did not kill anybody, Ibinabo was accused of killing somebody and she was walking on the street, bragging before the law caught up with her.

 I believe that it is because she passed a wrong judgement against me that God is punishing her. Her ban against me was flimsy and uncalled for even though it has been lifted by Emeka Ike.and for that, Ibinabo got what she deserved in her latest crisis.

Christabel swore  she did not bite Chineke as she recounted her ordeal. Trouble she said started when they were paired together to share a room during a movie production.  Chineke had repeatedly complained about her (Goddy) frequent midnight calls and one night, it led to a bitter fight leaving both parties injured.

After they were separated, Goody claimed Chineke went into the bathroom only to come out claiming that Goody grabbed her thigh with her teeth and bit off a chunk of her (Chineke’s) flesh.

She told Saturday Beats:

“Due to the nature of our profession, we don’t get to check our phones till we are done with shooting at night. That is when most of us have time to tend to our missed calls and messages. The actress had always complained about my phone calls but I found it amusing because I don’t speak loudly on phone. The hotel had a club and that also made so much noise so how come it was my phone call that was disturbing her sleep? 

Often times, she had complained but this fateful day, I got into the room and saw that she was sleeping on my side of the bed making phone calls, I waited till she was done then I told her to go to her side of the bed because we had our sleeping arrangement. She became belligerent towards me and began to insult my father. I told her to stop but she did not. Before I knew it, a fight ensued. She pushed me and I almost hit my head on the mirror before people came to separate us.

“By the time I would check my body, I had finger nail scratches everywhere and a bite mark on my hand although it was gradually fading. She went to the toilet and came out only to claim that I bit her. There was no blood on the trousers she wore or on the floor; neither was there blood on my cloth but she claimed that I bit her.

“I am not a cannibal; I have never eaten a human flesh in my life. I feel sad when I read that they call me a cannibal but I am a very strong person. If you are innocent of something, with time you would be vindicated. I am happy that people who have had to relate with me know that I am a peace-loving person,” she said.

The actress told Saturday Beats that nobody heard her side of the story yet they dubbed her a cannibal and Fiberesima placed a ban on her.

Even though the ban has been lifted by the current president of the association, Emeka Ike, Goddy said it was quite “irresponsible” of Ibinabo to ban her in the first place without hearing from both parties.

She said:

 “My only regret is that I indulged her and I am not proud of it. But then with my age and the little number of years I have spent in the industry, I should be excused. Politicians fight every day, so I don’t see why I should be buried. I did not kill anybody. Ibinabo was accused of killing somebody and she was walking on the street, bragging before the law caught up with her. I believe that it is because she passed a wrong judgement against me that God is punishing her. Her ban against me was flimsy and uncalled for even though it has been lifted by Emeka Ike.

“I was in her office and she told me that I was a very decent young lady from the way we were chatting, my lawyer was there and I am quoting her verbatim. She told me not to worry that the matter was just a fight between two people.  She advised that I work on my temperament. She said that she would settle the matter and reverse the ban. She even went as far as taking me to the stadium where they had their veteran football competition and introduced me to the chairman, board of trustees and some directors. As she was introducing me, some of the men told me that I didn’t look the part of a fighter and that I should be more careful next time and avoid people who would trigger my anger. She promised the man that she would take control of the situation.

“She asked me to come to her office the next day and I was there with my lawyer, we waited for seven hours but Ibinabo refused to see me. She gave a flimsy excuse that the other actress was not available because she went to treat her wound. My lawyer was of the opinion that the other girl did not have to be there, that all Ibinabo should have done was to reconcile us and reverse the ban she placed on me. She is certainly paying for the wickedness she meted out on me because God does not joke with me. I don’t go about looking for trouble; I live a very private life. I am not a saint but I try my best to help people.”

'I Don't Plan To Transfer Any Money To My Children' - Billionaire Reveals

 Russia's 2nd-richest man, Mikhail Fridman, whose net worth is $13.3 billion according to Forbes, is to leave his children out of his will. The businessman said he wants his children to create something on their own.

"I'm not a big fan of such public statements, but I can say that I am going to transfer all my money to charity. I don’t plan to transfer any money to my children,” Fridman said, responding to a question from the audience at the Forbes club.

 He says giving a young person large amounts of money risks ruining his life. He also doesn’t want his children to participate in his Alfa Group business.

Fridman said he wants his children to follow his footsteps and create something of their own. Another reason for that is that he doesn’t want his elder daughter Laura, who is now 22, to become a focus of people with bad intentions.

21-year Old Man Commits Suicide at His Work Place in Lagos

 A 21-year-old man identified as Tope Diya committed suicide at his work place at Olayiwola Street, Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos state today May 19th.

 Tope who is a resident of 5, Ademolu Street, Oko Oba, was found dead at about 7:00am this morning. He reportedly used his cloth to hang himself to an aluminum frame.

The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident and said brother of the deceased reported the incident to the police.

Nigeria Is Broke – Federal Goverment

 The Federal government has raised the alarm that the country is broke and cannot sustain the subsidy regime, hence the hike in the price of fuel.

 Speaking to State House Correspondents on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council(FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed  lamented that the economy of the country is shrinking.

According to Mohammed, the government has the responsibility at times to take very difficult decisions which may be unpopular.

He said the current problem is not really about subsidy removal. It is about that Nigeria is broke. Pure and simple!

“It is like somebody who has been earning N100,000 a month and he is faced with a situation where his employer says henceforth you will be earning N10,000 a month. He would need to make some very painful decisions and some very painful adjustments. That is the situation with Nigeria today.

“A few months ago, we were earning as much as $100 for every barrel of crude. In the months of February and March, we no longer have the resources, the foreign exchange to bring in refined fuel products. And our economy is shrinking.

“We appreciate the fact that the decision is going to affect everybody. We appreciate what we are going through, but Nigerians should also know that the government has the responsibility at times to take very difficult decisions. So, it is not always about popularity.

Armed Men Attack Police Station, Kill 2 Officers

 According to The Nation, Two officers were reportedly killed in an attack carried out by 12 gunmen in Osara police station in Adavi Local government area of Kogi state today May 19th.

The gunmen stormed the police station at about 2am this morning with the purpose of stealing from the station's armory and also set free one of their colleagues who was in jail.

The gunmen carted away arms and ammunition and also released other detainees in custody.

The two policemen who were killed were gunned down while trying to resist the gunmen. Two other officers that were critically injured during the attack are said to be responding to treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.

The gunmen who reportedly operated for over two hours unchallenged, were said to have set ablaze a vehicle parked at the station during the attack.

The spokesperson of the Kogi Police Command, Willy Aya, confirmed the incident but denied reports that there were fatalities from the attack.

How Abducted Chibok Girl Amina Nkeki Was Rescued, Pregnant Again

 Emotions ran high in Chibok community yesterday as the first of 219 school girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents over two years ago was brought forward to be identified.

 Amina Ali was rescued on Tuesday night in Bale village at the edge of the Sambisa forest by a Chibok vigilante group which handed her over to the military.

Residents poured on to the streets as news spread that troops had brought one of the abducted girls to the village. Some of those who saw the girl recognised her instantly and sent for her mother to come. On sighting each other mother and daughter ran into an emotional embrace. 

 The girls were seized by the insurgents from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, in Borno State in April 2014 as they stayed in school to write their final examinations. Since then no one had set sight on anyone of them.

 She was 17 when she was abducted, now she is 19, “married” to a Boko Haram fighter and carrying his four-month old child.Her father died of trauma while she was in captivity. Six other parents also died of trauma.

“Amina, are you truly the one? So, you are alive!” the mother, was quoted to have said. The two cried for a while before Amina narrated her ordeal. Many of the residents also shed tears.

Amina reportedly told the community leaders that her school mates were in Sambisa forest, but that six of them had died”They are “well secured and protected” to stop the Nigerian Army from rescuing them,” she said.

Secretary of Chibok Local Government, Awomi Nkeki, who is also the acting chairman of the council, and from the same clan with Amina, told our correspondent on phone, that the rescued girl had been reunited with her mother.He said the reunion was emotional because Amina’s mother was shocked by what she saw, and nearly slumped.

Amina was found in a building at the Bale village after a fierce fighting between some Boko Haram insurgents and youth vigilantes, also known as Civilian JTF.

Sources said Amina, who looked dejected and walked with a limp, was found breastfeeding her daughter.

A doctor from Chibok, Idriss Danladi, who has been treating beleaguered parents of the abducted girls, said she is pregnant again.

Her rescue has now heightened hopes in Chibok and across the country, that some of the girls, whose kidnap had attracted the attention of world, are still alive.

She reportedly told her rescuers that six of her friends died in captivity and expressed optimism that many others were still alive.

Amina’s rescue came when vigilantes from Damboa town launched a counter attack to stop fleeing Boko Haram from the Sambisa forest.

James Bako, an opinion leader in Chibok, who was one of the first people that saw the rescued girl, said she escaped from the Sambisa forest together with her “husband” as a result of ground and aerial offensive by Nigerian security forces.

He said the girl told them that she had resigned to fate, after she was forcefully married off to a man, whom she said was equally abducted, conscripted and told to fight for the insurgents.

“After she was found in the house, Amina was smart enough to hide her identity. She was being careful when she earlier gave her name as Falmata Mbalala, which was quoted by the army. “She wanted to be sure she was safe after leaving the Sambisa forest before revealing her true identity,” he said.

Vanessa Gar, a mother of one of the abducted Chibok girls, said after the civilian JTF fought the Boko Haram assailants, they arrested two alive, who said they would give “good information” if their lives were spared.

“The vigilantes agreed and the captured terrorists took them to a house in Bale. Many women were in the house.

“One of the vigilantes, who surveyed the faces of women in the house, paid special attention to Amina. He realised that she looked like the people from one of the Chibok communities. He spoke to her in their local dialect and she responded,” he said.

How Amina got married

Nkeki, who confirmed the reunion, said the name of the man that got “married” to Amina is Mohammed Hayado.

“Amina said Mohammed was also captured and forced to become a member of the Boko Haram. The terrorists’ commander, who was in charge of handling her and other women, directed that she should marry Mohammed and she had no option but to agree,” he said.

Jummai Salama, who was present when Amina was taken to her mother, said the girl told the vigilantes that her “husband” was not far from where she was found and wanted him to be rescued also.

“Of course, Amina is one of our daughters that were abducted at GGSS Chibok. We are really happy that she is back.

“Somehow, I think she got used to the young man and does not want him to be killed, probably because she has a child for him,” She said.

She said Amina’s return has rekindled hope in Chibok and environs, that their daughters, who are still alive, would one day return.

Adamu Musa, a trader in Chibok, whose three nieces were among the abducted school girls, said they had been grieving in the last two years.

“There is a new hope now. We are glad that at last one of the girls has been found, meaning that many more would be found by the grace of God.”

Daily Trust correspondents reports that many people have gone to the Chibok to give gratitude to God.

Ishaya Musa, a parent of one of the Chibok girls, who is now in Maiduguri, said, “We went to Church to give gratitude to God. I wish my daughter will also be found. I love all the girls but I pray my daughter is not one of the six that died,” he said.Her rescue has elicited wild jubilations in her ancestral home, Mbalala.

Amina, her child, mother as well as her ‘husband’ were taken to the government house in Maiduguri by military authorities.They were received by Governor Kashim Shettima. Sources close to the meeting said they would be taken to the Presidential Villa in Abuja today after debriefing.

 A human trafficking victim, Love John, revealed that she slept with more than 400 men in less than five months in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.

 Love, 22, and her 23-year-old sister, Happiness, were lured into prostitution sometime in January by their eldest sister, Mary.

Mary also tricked a cousin, Joy Lawrence, 25, promising the three ladies that she could give them jobs that would help them make a decent living. However, by the time they discovered that they had been trafficked, the victims said they had become trapped.

Lawrence and another victim fled the hotel on Monday when they could no longer bear the pain they were subjected to. Lawrence was brought to the Lagos zonal headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, which then stormed the hotel and rescued other victims.

The agency also arrested Mary and the owner of the hotel, one Mrs. Akpojaro Rose, an indigene of Warri, Delta State.

The ladies collected between N500 and N700 per sex, paid N200 per day for hotel rates, and made about N340,000 in savings within the period.

Narrating her ordeal, Love told our correspondent she did not have any formal education because their father died when they were toddlers.

She explained that her sister lured her into prostitution, saying she slept with an average of four men a day.

She said, “I was learning tailoring in the village. My sister told me she could help me get a job in Lagos; she didn’t tell me that it was prostitution I was coming to do. After we got to Lagos, she said we should do this (prostitution) job so we can make money to be able to finish my craft as a tailor. I sleep with about four men in a day and each of them pay me at least N500.”

Her elder sister, Happiness, also said she was not aware she had been trafficked until she arrived in Lagos and was introduced to prostitution.

“I didn’t go to school and I have not learnt any trade. I came to Lagos a few months ago. My sister didn’t tell me this was what I was coming to do in Lagos. She said it was a good job,” she said.

Lawrence, who fled the hotel on Monday, said she was told she would be trading when she left their hometown in Ogoja, Cross River State.

“I ran away because I didn’t like the work. I don’t want to do it again. I never knew this was the job,” the victim said.

But Mary said she did not want to bring her relatives into the trade, adding that she gave in to pressure when they kept asking her to take them to Lagos.

She said, “I came to Lagos with a friend in 2014 and my friend introduced me to this job. We were first using a hotel called Happiness Hotel before we moved to Morning Star Hotel in Sango Ota. When I travelled to the village, my sisters started disturbing me that they wanted to follow me to Lagos to go and work.

“When they continued to disturb me, I decided to take them with me; but I didn’t tell them I was into prostitution. I told my mother I was working in a beer parlour. Each of us makes N2,500 to N3,000 daily. We sleep with an average of three to four men and they pay between N500 and N700.”

The 32-year-old said from January till May 16 when they were arrested, she had saved N340,000 for the three girls.

She, however, alleged that the hotel was raided by some policemen from the Sango Ota division, whom they settled with N150,000.

The owner of the hotel, Rose, told Punch Metro  that she gave out rooms to the girls at the rate of N200 per day.

“I warned Mary that the girls were too young, but she didn’t listen to me. I have 15 rooms in my hotel and I have seven girls, who were paying me N200 every day. If I had children of their age, I will not allow them do this,” she said.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Musa Maza, who handed over the victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters, said the suspects would be prosecuted at the end of investigations.

He said, “This is a human trafficking case in the form of enslavement and prostitution. The victims were forced into sex against their wish. Two of them actually escaped. The whereabouts of one is unknown, but the second victim contacted someone who brought her to the immigration office.

“Parents should be vigilant and wary of those who come for their children asking them to be released in search of greener pastures. We are handing them over to NAPTIP for prosecution. We believe this will serve as a deterrent to those that will want to engage in this useless business.”

Suleiman said he regretted trekking for Buhari who has now made life unbearable for the masses.

According to Dailypost, the man expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the president has been ruling Nigeria in the last one year.

Reports quoted him saying, “Removing fuel subsidy at this hard time is not palatable to hear, when so many workers and labourers can hardly put food on their table, many companies have folded up, and cost of living is very high.

“Nigerians have been hoping for a positive change for a very long time, enduring hardship and now the Federal government wants to make things worse for the masses.”
