11 people, including an 11-year-old boy regain freedom in Ekiti State

11 kidnapped victims, across Ekiti State in the last three weeks were at the early hours of Saturday released by their captors. ...Those released were a lecturer at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Folasade Alade; a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Dr. Femi Omisore; wife of a former Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Dr. Kikelomo Adegun, and a nurse with the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, Margret Aladeneka, Biliaminu Abiola, Mrs. Lydia Agnes and her daughter, Mrs. Foluke Abiola, Mrs. Yemi Abiola, Mrs. Funmi Ogunlola, Mrs. Folake Adeniyi and Jimi Johnson. After they were released Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose didn't say if ransoms were paid to secure the release of the victims.

However, a family member of one of the victims said they were released after their families had paid some undisclosed amount of money to the kidnappers. She said the freed abductees were let go at a bush in the Esure-Ekiti area of the state.

Some of the victims have been taken to hospitals for treatment by their families after the Police arrived in the town.

However, another version of events said the victims were rescued by vigilantes at Esure-Ekiti, who then took the abductees to the palace of the Elesure of Esure-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibola.

The traditional ruler of the town, Oba Adebanji Ajibola, said local hunters had located the kidnappers’ den through a tip off from a woman, who complained that she saw a suspected armed man in the bush.

Oba Ajibola said,
“Vigilance group located the hideouts of the kidnappers and they ran away. But we were able to rescue 11 of the victims and I asked the group to bring them to my palace. Once they got to my palace we took their names and they were all rescued alive.
“We found the kidnap victims in the thick bush of Esure and Ika, Irasa and Ado roads. We started the rescue assignment since last week. The chiefs and I decided to use the local vigilance group to arrest the kidnappers.
“The government said they were sending heavily armed security operatives to invade the bush but I advised against that, saying that they should allow us to use my men first, who would first of all comb the bush and once they have a clue of anything, we would then ask the police to swing into action.”
The traditional ruler said the community and the police were on the trail of a man identified as Olumide, an indigene of Esure Ekiti and another man who was an accomplice to the kidnappers.

RIP!!!! Stella Adadevoh’s son opens up" My Mum's last days "

Bankole, the only son of the late Dr. Stella Adadevoh, tells Arukaino Umukoro  about his mum’s heroic efforts in the country’s fight against Ebola...Can you recollect her encounter with the late Liberian diplomat, Patrick Sawyer, who brought Ebola into Nigeria?

The actual story was that when this man (Sawyer) flew into Nigeria from Liberia to attend a conference, he fell ill on his arrival and was taken to First Consultants because the general hospitals were on strike. When he got there, he was first treated for malaria on a Sunday. That weekend was my dad’s 60th birthday and my mum wasn’t in the hospital. We were all at home celebrating. On that Monday, she went to the hospital and saw him. Immediately, these were her own words to me, she said she was very disturbed, because it looked as if blood was seeping through his skin. She said she knew it was not malaria. When she asked him where he had been and he said Liberia, she immediately suspected it could be Ebola.

Interestingly, three months or so before, we were just watching the news when she said, “Nigeria is not prepared for Ebola.” Back then, she immediately did her research on Ebola, noting that Nigeria needed to be prepared if there was an outbreak. She printed those papers long ago. So, when this man came, she immediately suspected; although at the time, she didn’t have any positive result that it was Ebola. The Liberian officials there were very furious and said she must release him, claiming that she was holding him against his will; and she had kidnapped him. But she said she could not let him leave the hospital for the public good, and he must stay there because she suspected he had a haemorrhagic disease which was infectious.

“About a month ago, he decided to rent  a room in the next street so that his wife who was about to deliver a baby could have more space and we all agreed that it was okay. He  got a room in  Ette Friday’s house and moved there”.
Rita explained that everything was fine until Ndarake, Itoro’s wife, gave birth and the baby died within days.
