Prostitut*s Protest After New Law is Passed Making it Illegal to Pay For S*x(Photos)

Prostitut*s in France marched to the front National Assembly building in Paris, France to protest after a new law was passed that penalizes the patronage of s*x workers.
The French parliament on Wednesday passed a law that now makes it illegal to pay for sex in France making them the 5th European country (after Sweden, Norway, Iceland and the U.K) in the world to criminalize prostit*tion.

Under the new law, pimping and brothels remain illegal, while it is legal to offer your body for sale but illegal for someone to buy it.

Offenders may be fined up to €3,750 (about $4,300) and required to attend classes about the conditions of s*x workers.

The law also establishes measures to help prostitut*s find new work, and makes it easier for foreign sex workers to acquire temporary residency permits.

France’s Socialist government welcomed the new legislation. The bill’s architect
Maud Olivier told AFP: “This law is essential to ending the idea that it is normal to buy someone’s body.”

"The goal is to diminish [prostit*tion], protect prostitut*s who want to quit, and change mentalities. We will succeed in changing the mentality, but new efforts are needed to raise awareness, to train police officers and magistrates.”

But some of France’s nearly 30,000 prostitut*s did not share Olivier’s conviction. About 60 demonstrators, including s*x workers, protested the new law outside the Parliament, some carrying a sign that read, “Don’t Liberate Me, I’ll Take Care of Myself!”

Photo : Man Who Murdered 12-Year Old, Drank His Blood, Mutilated His Body Now Put To Death

A murderer who cut the throat of a 12-year-old boy, drank his blood and sickeningly mutilated the body has been executed.
Pablo Lucio Vasquez(pictured above) was put to death by lethal injection at the Texas state death chamber in Huntsville.

The 38-year-old was pronounced dead at 6.35pm local time, officials confirmed.

Vasquez killed 12-year-old David Cardenas in the town of Donna in Texas in April 1998. On the night of the murder, Vasquez, then 20, attended a party with his 15-year-old cousin Andy Chapa and met the boy.

Afterwards, the three were walking home when when Vasquez - who was drunk and high on cocaine - picked up a pipe and hit David over the head, then cut his throat.

The cousins took David's body to a field, where they scalped him, cut off one of his arms and part of the other and removed the skin from his back.

They also robbed him and then attempted to crudely hide the body under aluminium sheets.

Vazquez was quickly picked up by police and admitted the murder. He also told officers he had drunk his blood.

Chapa later testified that Vasquez killed the boy because the child did not “give him what he wanted.”

During his trial, Vasquez said: “The devil was telling me to take [David's head] away from him.”

On a videotaped confession shown to the jury, he said: "One side of my head said, 'You did wrong. The other side said, 'Keep doing it. Keep doing it'."'

About four hours before the planned execution, the US Supreme Court denied a petition to halt the proceedings. Lawyers for Vasquez argued that he had serious learning difficulties and was mentally ill, and therefore incompetent and should not be executed.

The execution is the sixth in Texas, and the 537th since the state reinstated the death penalty in 1976.

Chapa was sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty for his role. Three others were convicted of helping to cover-up the murder.

Police Officer Allegedly Assaults Lawyer in Lagos(Photo)

Sunday Elimihe, 41,(pictured above), a Lagos based lawyer has accused the police officers attached to the Onipanu Division in Lagos state of beating him up and leaving him with a wounded eye. The Nation reports that Elimihe was rushed to the Shomolu General Hospital Thursday, after he was assaulted by some policemen because he refused to give them N1,000 bribe. Narrating what happened, the victim who is currently hospitalized, said

"On my way coming from Lekki where I went to check a property with my client, I decided to use the Onipanu police station road, by Apata. Immediately I drove into the street close to the station, one Corporal Alonge stopped me, demanded for my vehicle particulars. I gave them to him, then he demanded for my driver’s license, which  I also gave him.  When he discovered I did not commit any offence, he asked for my tinted glass permit which I gave him. He told me I was using a forged tinted glass permit. I told him I could not have forged a police document as a lawyer.

He became furious and said he was going to arrest me. He jumped into my vehicle and insisted I must give him N1,000 to bail myself. I said I was not going to give him any money since I have not committed any offence.

He pounced on me and cocked his gun threatening to shoot me if I make a move. Another policewoman who sighted us came and dragged the gun from him. The policeman after being disarmed descended on me and gave me the beating of my life. He pushed me into the cell and another policeman came inside the cell, locked up the cell and beat me for 30 minutes. I see this as intimidation of the highest order, not because I am a lawyer, but because I am an average Nigerian. I was humiliated like a common criminal. This is oppression. One of my eyes is partially blind. I have been vomiting blood since yesterday. It was the intervention of a good policeman in the station who warned them not to kill me. I would have been dead by now,” he said.

David Mark Reacts to The Panama Report : Denies Owning Offshore Companies in The British Virgin Island

Former Senate President David Mark, has released a statement, denying claims in the Panama report that he owned about eight offshore companies in British Virgin Island.
Premiumtimes on Tuesday April 5th, reported that an investigation carried out by them and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), showed that the former senate president was the owner of eight offshore companies in the Island. In his response, Mark in denying the claim, said some political elements were out to tarnish his image. Read his statement after the cut

"Our attention has been drawn to spurious Media reports on the Panama papers in which former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark was alleged to have operated offshore companies. For the avoidance of doubt, in the released materials of the Panama Leaks, his name is not listed anywhere in the database of Mossack Fonseca Law Firm.

We reiterate categorically, that he is not directly or indirectly connected to any of the companies registered, operated or managed by the Mossack Fonseca Law Firm. We challenge all those behind this propaganda and Media outburst to prove or show that Senator Mark’s name was mentioned in the leaks. He is prepared to stand and defend himself against any accusation in relation to this matter. Senator Mark’s Media team has carried out its own search of the Mossack Fonseca database and found no statement, item or any connection to Senator David Mark or his Family. It follows that there is no record whatsoever of any impropriety or wrongdoing.

We recall that in his quest for Senate Presidency in 2007, there was an attempt to bring a similar issue to the fore in order to stop him. So what are their fears now in 2016 for regurgitating the same issue?Once more, Senator Mark has distanced himself and any member of his family from the said Mossack Fonseca Firm and has no affiliation whatsoever with any company operated, registered or managed by Mossack Fonseca. Senator Mark has not contravened any laws of the land and he is treating this for what it is, an attempt to blackmail and tarnish his hard earned image by some political elements. As a public officer, Senator Mark has maintained a high level of decorum, respects and observes the laws of the land and believes in the sanctity of the rule of law. He will not be distracted by what is clearly a deliberate mischief and propaganda."
Records of all his assets are available with the relevant government agencies and can be verified. He has consulted his legal team and will take this up accordingly.
