Singer Tiwa Savage Reveals How Nigerian Musicians 'Pamper' OAPs, DJs to Have Their Songs Played

At the on-going Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive 4), Mavin records first lady, Tiwa Savage was among a 7-member panel which deliberated on ‘Content Marketing: The Power of Music, Comedy & More’.

While speaking on difficulties many Nigerian artistes go through in order to promote their content, Savage said,

‘I was in the UK recently. They have people called ‘Music Pluggers’. These people are professionals who help artistes plug their songs on radio and also ensure that the songs get enough airplay.

‘But here in Nigeria, we artistes have to take our CDs to radio stations ourselves. We tend to build relationships with OAPs and DJs. We always ensure that we send messages to them on their birthdays because many of us believe that if we don’t do that, they might not play our songs.

‘I don’t think Rihanna has to know the OAP or the DJ on a breakfast show before getting airplay. I think we need those middle men that will be handling our music promotion.’

The session was moderated by renowned music video director, Kemi Adetiba.

Others on the panel include popular dancer, Kafayat ‘Kaffy’ Shafau, Content Director Project Fame, Nkiru Njoku, Banky W, CEO Spot Studio UK, Sebastian Paszek, GM Consumer Marketing MTN, Richard Iweanoge and Director, West African H.

Child Brides Break Down in Tears After Being Forced to Marry Older Boys in Mass Wedding Ceremony(See)

The video of the ceremony which has infuriated child rights groups around the world was recorded in Chittorgarh, a city in Rajasthan, northern India.
It shows a mass child marriage ceremony with young girls crying as they are forced to wed. One the brides is a five year old. She can be seen crying loudly as she is being pulled by a man to complete her Hindu wedding ritual to an older boy. Another young bride who is about 10 years old can be seen crying uncontrollably and pleading for help as she is forced to walk around a fire.

A faith leader overseeing the proceedings in Rajasthan is caught scolding the children for crying on camera. About twelve youngsters are believed to have been married during the illegal two-day ceremony.

Kriti Bharti, a leading child rights activist  who has stopped almost 1000 forced child marriages from taking place in Rajasthan - has called for the adults involved to be prosecuted. She said:
"My heart goes out to these little children trapped in this tragedy.
"The police should have acted immediately as the video clearly shows a priest was involved. Action should not only be taken against the families but each adult involved in the ceremony including the decorators, caterers, attendees, and relatives."

Spanish Airline Withdraws Services From Nigeria, Cites "Financial Difficulties' Due to CBN Forex Policy(Report)

Spanish national carrier, Iberia Airline has withdrawn its services from Nigeria. The decision which was taken yesterday, was based on the huge financial difficulties the airline is facing due to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) refusal to exempt foreign airlines from its forex policy.

Nairametrics, a Business News, and Financial Analysis Website, reports that other foreign airlines are also contemplating pulling their services from the country.

The CBN policy has prevented it from repatriating its proceeds made in Nigeria in the last few months. Foreign airlines have over $500 million trapped in the various banks.

Before Iberia took this decision, foreign carriers had expressed their displeasure at the CBN policy, with many threatening to withdraw their services from Nigeria if nothing was urgently done to reverse it, The Tribune reports.

Following this development, foreign carriers requested to meet with the Federal Government to work out a solution by exempting foreign airlines from this policy. They are expected to meet with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, today.
