Society for the Safety of the Insane and Destitute (SO SAID) has emerged winner of the fourth edition of the PG-sponsored Supermom reality show. The orphanage which was founded by Mrs. Concern Felicia R.D Martins edged out finalists; Children of Promise orphanage (CHIPROM) founded by Pastor Oladapo Idowu and Vigilant Orphanage by Mrs. Maria Iriowen Osawemen to win the grand prize of N2m cash. SO-SAID was introduced into the reality show in the 8th episode where Mrs. Concern R.D Martins narrated how rough and tough the journey was when she started. “In the beginning, I was going about the streets with camera crew and those who can help in carrying the insane for me, this made my husband chased me out of the house because he felt I was embarrassing the family even my first son hit me on the face and I slept on the street for eight months when I started the project.”
Mrs. Concern R.D Martins, recalled times she shed tears, “When I see some schools discriminating against my kids, telling the kids not to come to school because they are from So- Said (motherless babies’ home) I shed tears’.
Continuing, ‘sometimes when some kids are picked on the street and they need urgent treatment at the hospital and there is no transportation and money to convey them, I will resolve to do the walking, at those moments too I shed tears’.
Mrs. Gift Abudu, 44 year old medical matron at So-Said described Mrs. Concern Felicia R.D Martins as charitable and God-fearing.
Since it began airing in July, viewers keenly followed the sacrifices of the founders of motherless babies’ homes and various charitable organizations who nurtured other people’s children without discrimination. Some of the promoters of orphanages featured in the season four of the PG-sponsored reality show are, Mrs. Cordelia Nweke, Late Mrs. Irene Willoughby of Ijamido Home, Mrs. Motunrayo Bamidele of SOS Children Village, Mrs. Betty Obiewu of Living Foundation Orphanage, Mr. Oyedeji of Compassionate Orphanage, Rev. Deborah Ogo of Arrows of God orphanage, Mrs. Oyiza Adenuga of Oyiza Home.
Supermom reality show sponsored by Procter & Gamble and Promasidor started in 2010, with the winner getting a new house while first and second runners-up got a car and N500 000 (five hundred thousand) respectively. The second edition in 2011 was the same as the first edition, but the third edition tagged 'The Celebrity Edition' was different because it celebrated mothers of celebrities. Mrs Gladys Asuquo, the mother of ace music producer, Cohbams Asuquo took home the star prize of N2m while Fuji star, Obesere's mother Mrs. Omobonike Anike went home with N1m as first runner-up. The 2nd runner-up cash prize of N500, 000 went to Mrs. Martinez Sanni the mother of pop star, Skales. The winners made cash donations to orphanages of their choice respectively.
The show aired on AIT, Africa Magic, V-channel, MITV, Kwara TV, ABS Akwa and CRBC Calabar.
