125 students from Nigeria who have received full scholarships from the government will be attending college in Boston this Fall (August/September). They will be attending the Northeastern University, My Fox Boston reports.
On the 26th May 2014, 53 of the 125 students arrived in Boston, with Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs Kingsley Kuku. Showing their patriotism, they wore green-and-white scarves that represented the Nigerian flag.
According to a release, the children came from deprived regions of the country. They are required to complete a summer bridge term at Northeastern before they join the University’s sophomore class.
With the aid of the U.S. Pathway Program, which consists of an association of American universities offering an academic preparation that becomes a pathway to a university degree, and the Nigerian Government, they are working to fund the students’ scholarship, which includes tuition, books, and room and board.
